A Hall County car accident has claimed the life of a 6-year-old boy. The young boy was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Geovanna Juarez, a 33-year-old resident of Gainesville, Georgia. The accident happened on Poplar Springs Road at Sloan Mill Road in Gainesville. According to the Georgia State Patrol, one car was traveling east on Sloan Mill Road, approaching its intersection with Poplar Springs Road, when a second car that was traveling south on Poplar Springs Road struck the left side of the first car. That impact knocked the first car off the road and sent the second car into a third vehicle that was traveling north on Poplar Springs Road. Multiple Gainesville residents were injured in the accident. In addition to the 6-year-old boy who was a passenger in Geovanna Juarez's car, three other minors were in Juarez's car: a 16-year-old, and 8-year-old, and a 5-year-old. James Cripps, a 41-year-old resident of Gainesville, was the driver of the second vehicle. Ashley Sosebee, a 26-year-old resident of Gainesville, was the driver of the third vehicle.
All of the injured were transported to Northesat Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment. The 8-year-old and 5-year-old were later transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for additional treatment.
The Georgia State Patrol has not yet released a cause of the accident. The Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team ("SCRT") will likely investigate the accident to determine who was at fault. The investigation will include interviewing any witnesses, inspecting the accident scene, taking measurements, inspecting the vehicles involved, and looking at the data on any event data records that the vehicles may have. Once fault is determined, the police may issue a citation to the responsible driver. Given the serious nature of the crash, criminal charges may result.
The insurance companies for each of the drivers will likely use the SCRT team's report to assess liability. The insurance companies may also hire their own investigators to investing the accident and determine liability.
The Georgia State Patrol says one of the vehicles was traveling eastbound on Sloan Mill Road, approaching the intersection with Poplar Springs Road. The second vehicle was southbound on Poplar Springs Road, and struck the left side of the first vehicle, knocking it off of the roadway. The collision, investigators said, sent the second vehicle into the third vehicle, which was traveling northward on Poplar Springs Road.
