In this case, our client was a police officer and passenger in a vehicle traveling east on Highway 54 in Fayette County, Georgia. As the vehicle entered an intersection, an oncoming driver attempted to turn left, causing a violent car wreck.
The force of the collision caused disabling damage and airbag deployment in both vehicles. The responding officer on the scene cited the other driver for failure to yield while turning left.
Our client was taken by ambulance to Piedmont Fayette Hospital. While undergoing emergency evaluation, he began vomiting, became ashen and diaphoretic, and lost consciousness. A CT scan revealed significant internal bleeding in his abdomen, and he was transported by helicopter to Grady Hospital, where he was immediately taken in for emergency surgery.
During the procedure, surgeons identified a significant injury to his small bowel. Approximately 50 centimeters of his bowel had to be removed, and he also required an appendectomy. Due to the severity of his injuries and extensive surgery required, our client remained hospitalized for approximately one week before being discharged.
Attorney Tessa Sanders took on this case for our client and secured a $150,000 recovery on his behalf.
