$275,000 Recovered in Dog Bite Injury Case with Permanent Scarring

$275,000 Recovered in Dog Bite Injury Case with Permanent Scarring

Our client in this case was severely injured in a dog bite attack. She was out walking and passed by a man on the sidewalk who was walking a boxer mix dog. The dog suddenly lunged at our client, biting her several times: on the wrist, arm, and buttocks.

The bite to our client’s forearm was especially bad; the skin had been torn away, exposing muscle in the center of the laceration. Onlookers helped our client, who was crying and bleeding after the attack, get to a nearby school and called 911. Emergency responders transported her to the hospital.

In the ER, our client’s forearm wound was cleaned and repaired with sutures. She was released with instructions to follow up with her PCP for the sutures’ removal; however, our client experienced complications with the healing process.

Before the sutures could be removed, our client’s PCP observed that the edges of the wound were becoming black and necrotic. The PCP referred our client to a wound care clinic to ensure proper healing. Over the next few months, our client’s wound continued to show signs of dead tissue, which had to be continually removed with debridement procedures. Even after the sutures were removed and the wound healed, our client was left with a large permanent scar on her forearm.

Our client was physically, mentally, and financially affected by this event. Physically, the attack was painful and the wound healing process took months. Mentally, the dog attack left our client feeling self-conscious about the large scar on her arm, and she has become scared of dogs despite being very fond of them before the attack. Financially, she incurred over $16,000 in medical bills treating the injuries caused by the dog attack.

Personal injury attorney Lisa Bero took on this case for our client and successfully recovered $275,000 for her from the dog owner’s property insurance policy.
