A Gwinnett County car accident on January 2, 2016 killed a well-known runner. Karen Ann Ray, a 56 year-old resident of Dacula, Georgia, was jogging off South Pucketts Mill Road and State Route 124 when she was struck by a drunk driver. Police have identified the DUI driver as Christian Arizabaleta. Police said Arizabaleta was driving south on State Road 124 when he drifted into the right lane and hit a curb and two concrete traffic islands. Arizabaleta was charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, failure to maintain lane and reckless driving.
