Devon Zawko brings nearly seven years of experience to The Champion Firm, working on the defense side of medical malpractice cases at a top medical malpractice defense firm in Atlanta. During that time, she worked cases from beginning to end and second-chaired multiple trials in venues across Georgia.
Her defense background provides valuable insight into how insurance companies and defense counsel evaluate claims. Now on the plaintiffs’ side of the courtroom, this knowledge allows her to anticipate challenges and strategically position personal injury cases for success:
"With my background in defense work I know the lens by which insurance companies and their counsel analyze a case and how best to address potential challenges before they arise."
Born and raised in Roswell, Georgia, Devon’s path to becoming an attorney began during her junior year of undergraduate studies, when she knocked on the doors of local law firms in search of an opportunity to learn about the practice of law. That summer, she saw firsthand the positive impact an attorney can have on clients’ lives and decided law school was the natural next step.
While in law school at the University of Georgia, Devon found her passion for advocacy through her work on the UGA Moot Court Team. She competed for two years and was named a Finalist in the 2017 Emory Civil Rights and Liberties Moot Court Competition. In a full-circle moment, she later returned to volunteer as a judge for that same competition.
Devon was also honored to be selected for a judicial mini-course led by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
Her academic achievements include recognition in the National Order of Barristers (2017) and receiving the ABA-Bloomberg BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Labor and Employment Law. After graduating, she completed a fellowship with the UGA Office of Legal Affairs before continuing her career in private practice.
Her favorite part of being an attorney is the investigative foundation of each case. Devon enjoys diving deep into medical records, consulting with medical experts, and analyzing complex facts to develop a clear, actionable strategy for her clients. For her, the initial investigation is the most exciting stage as it sets the groundwork for everything that follows.
Outside of the office, Devon stays active by playing in recreational sports leagues around Atlanta. She also enjoys practicing the piano in her spare time and cheering on the Atlanta Falcons.
