One Investigation, Two Cases, A $1 Million Settlement

One Investigation, Two Cases, A $1 Million Settlement

A phone call about a potential medical malpractice case recently turned into a $1 million premises liability settlement.

And the medical malpractice case is still pending.

Many law firms would have passed on the case because the medical malpractice claim wasn’t immediately clear. Instead, we took the time to investigate it thoroughly, gather the records, and obtain expert review.

The result? We found strong support for the malpractice claim.

But we didn’t stop there.

Whenever someone contacts us about a medical malpractice case arising from an injury, we ask a simple question:

“How did the injury happen in the first place?”

In this case, that question led us to discover that the client had tripped and fallen because of a dangerous condition at a local restaurant. What initially appeared to be only a medical malpractice matter was also a premises liability case.

That premises case recently settled for the $1 million policy limits.

Too often, cases get viewed through a single lens. A lawyer sees a potential malpractice case and only looks for malpractice. Or sees a slip-and-fall and only looks for premises liability.

Our job is to see the entire picture.

Sometimes the most valuable case is the one nobody thought to look for.

The lesson is simple: Good lawyering starts with asking questions and following the facts wherever they lead.

That’s why every case deserves a thorough investigation.
