In this case, our clients—a husband, wife, and their infant son—were traveling on Moores Mill Road in Georgia when another driver following too closely crashed into the rear of their vehicle.
At the time of the collision, their son was just days away from turning six months old. Following the crash, emergency responders evaluated him at the scene and transported him to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite Hospital for further examination. While he did not display obvious signs of traumatic injury, his parents quickly noticed changes in his behavior after the collision.
In the days that followed, their son became unusually fussy, had difficulty sleeping, and became distressed whenever placed in his car seat. His parents also noticed reduced flexibility and range of motion in his left hip. Concerned by these changes, they sought further medical evaluation. He was later diagnosed with a left hip subluxation related to the collision and underwent treatment for his injuries.
Both parents also sustained injuries in the crash.
The mother experienced neck, shoulder, upper back, and low back pain, along with headaches and symptoms radiating into her extremities. She underwent evaluation and treatment for cervical and lumbar injuries, muscle strains, and related spinal conditions. Her symptoms affected her daily activities and continued to require medical care.
The father similarly suffered neck and back injuries, headaches, and radiating pain. His diagnoses included cervical and lumbar injuries, muscle strains, sacroiliac dysfunction, and wrist-related injuries. He also underwent treatment for ongoing pain and functional limitations resulting from the collision.
The injuries affected the entire family. In addition to managing their own recovery, the parents were faced with caring for an infant who was experiencing discomfort and distress following the crash.
Routine activities, including travel and daily caregiving responsibilities, became more challenging as the family worked through the physical and emotional effects of the collision.
